WASHINGTON (Nov. 30, 2001) - "ACPA and
RISE are disappointed to learn of the decision to drop the SEPA
amendment in the Education Conference Committee today," said
Jay J. Vroom, American Crop Protection Association president, and
Allen James, RISE (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment)
president.
"Our
organizations had worked hard to advocate a compromise approach
for legislative action dealing with pesticides in schools and had
hoped that the concerns of House members regarding provisions in
the Senate version could have been addressed, resulting in a final
affirmative outcome this year.
"However,
we recognize that the jurisdiction and 'unfunded mandate' issues
are significant and we are prepared to re-engage with interested
Senate and House offices and other stakeholders - including the
environmental community once again - to seek a new approach and
new vehicle to address the issues that still remain."
Organized
in 1933, ACPA is the not-for-profit trade organization representing
the major manufacturers, formulators and distributors of crop protection,
pest control and biotechnology products. ACPA member companies produce,
sell and distribute virtually all the scientific technology products
used in crop production by American farmers.
RISE
is the national association representing the manufacturers, formulators,
distributors and other industry leaders involved with pesticide
products used in turf, ornamental, pest control, aquatic and terrestrial
vegetation management and other non-food/fiber applications.
